- Our client has a requirement for an experienced tax manager to join their team on a fixed term basis until December 2019.
Group Tax is a key function within the Finance community of our client, having responsibility for managing the group's tax affairs, ensuring that the tax consequences of all transactions are understood and that the group is in full compliance with all of its statutory obligations. The pace of legislative and regulatory change makes this an exciting time to join the Group Tax department and contribute to the Group vision to be the best bank for customers.
In this role you'll support the Ring Fence Bank activities and gain exposure to the changes required in setting up the new bank, together with the risk and assurance activities that impact the responsibilities and management of the company's tax affairs from the Ring Fence Banking changes. You'll work collaboratively with the Advisory, Compliance and Reporting teams within Group Tax on implementing tax coverage, managing relationships and communications with stakeholders on significant tax compliance and risk implications for the Ring Fence Bank activities.
You will work across Group Tax as well as the wider business and control functions, to understand the applicability of tax policies and implementation of these within the Ring Fence Bank. You will be responsible for ensuring alignment to and full compliance with a range of group policy requirements.
Communication and influencing skills are key, as you will be expected to provide complex or difficult messages, from time to time, in a user friendly manner, tailoring your approach for a variety of audiences. You'll need to be an excellent relationship manager, able to influence and work with diverse groups of stakeholders (including HMRC) through open communication, partnership and consistent delivery.
This role calls for the ability to work with process and participate in project management initiatives in the ever changing tax world. This will include coverage of tax risk management within a SOX, and Senior Accounting Officer environment, to the backdrop of increasing public scrutiny of tax affairs of large corporates, at the same time as increasing obligations to be transparent. You'll focus on continuous improvement including process efficiencies, and simplification.
Tax legislation is constantly changing and evolving and therefore focus on tax matters requires the need to proactively engage in self-development and professional training initiatives for you as well as other colleagues.
This position supporting ring fenced bank is expected to continue until 31st December 2019.
Desirable Skills and Qualifications:
* Professional Accountancy and/or Tax qualifications, e.g., ACA, ACCA, ATT, CTA
* Good current knowledge and experience of tax legislation and accounting standards under IFRS
* Good understanding of risk expectations for a tax function impacted by SOX, Senior Accounting Officer, and Public Tax Strategy regimes
* Financial Services background
