An opportunity for an experienced working capital professional to take ownership of financial performance across two high-profile practice areas within a leading UK professional services environment. Based in either Edinburgh or Glasgow, this role offers the chance to work closely with senior stakeholders while driving improvements across billing, WIP and credit control.

The Opportunity

This position plays a key role in managing working capital performance across major practice groups, supporting partners and colleagues with billing, credit control and client account management. Working closely with the Senior Manager – Working Capital and wider finance teams, you will help implement effective processes, provide meaningful financial insight and ensure strong financial governance across the business.

You will act as a trusted partner to fee earners and leadership teams, helping to manage lock-up, resolve billing challenges and ensure financial deadlines are consistently achieved.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee working capital management across designated practice areas
  • Partner with partners and colleagues to support billing, credit control and client account reconciliation
  • Monitor and manage WIP, accounts receivable and client balances
  • Support the reduction of lock-up through proactive working capital management
  • Gather and monitor billing pledges and accounts receivable forecasts
  • Prepare and deliver management information and financial insights
  • Act as the escalation point for WIP, billing and credit control matters
  • Work collaboratively with finance colleagues to improve processes and implement best practice
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, regulatory requirements and accounting rules
  • Support training and development of colleagues within the working capital team

Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience in a working capital or revenue control role within a legal or professional services environment
  • Strong knowledge of WIP management, billing and credit control processes
  • Understanding of VAT regulations and legal accounting rules
  • Ability to build strong relationships with partners and senior stakeholders
  • Commercial mindset with the confidence to challenge where necessary
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Strong communication skills and a proactive, solutions-focused approach
  • Comfortable analysing financial data and presenting information clearly
