Wilkinson & Associates is working with a boutique-scaled financial services company in Edinburgh to help source an Assistant Finance Manager to join their finance department.

The Assistant Finance Manager will be responsible for assisting in all aspects of financial control, management reporting, regulatory and financial reporting, MI production and design, budget and forecasts preparation, as well as the development of internal control policies and procedures.

This is an excellent opportunity for a soon-to-be or newly qualified accountant to develop and learn in a small and highly experienced team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the implementation of the various projects across the bank by dealing with ad hoc queries as and when they arise 
  • Maintain and develop sound accounting systems and financial models
  • Undertake strategic analysis and assist with strategic planning
  • Help prepare monthly management accounts and when necessary, investigate variances to budget
  • Prepare budget and financial forecasts and investigate variances
  • Production of statutory accounts as and when required in accordance with the relevant accounting principles and legislation
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors to help complete the yearly audit
  • Help complete month-end and year-end close process
  • Confirm quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
  • Help develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Develop Management Information within Finance and the wider business
  • Engage and capture the Bank’s business MI requirements
  • Ensure correct MI requirements are gathered and the most appropriate MI channel is used
  • Ensure any changes to existing MI data models are approved through the necessary governance and change control process
  • Ensure the Bank’s MI controls are adequate and MI is shared in a safe manner

Required Skills & Attributes:

  • Part-qualified / newly qualified professional accounting qualification
  • Advanced Excel skills and competence in modelling and quantitative methods
  • Ability to apply and consolidate finance skills and knowledge to a diverse range of financial issues through the application of technical accounting skills
  • Experience of working autonomously to prioritise own and team’s workload in a time-pressured environment
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines with a high-quality output
  • Experience of working and building strong business relationships in a changing and fast-moving environment
  • Experience of influencing at managerial level and maintaining ongoing relationships with key clients
