Newly Qualified Accountant - Edinburgh

Wilkinson & Associates is working with a global retail banking group based in Edinburgh. They have an excellent opportunity for a Newly Qualified Accountant to join their Financial Reporting team.

Within this team is Treasury Reporting, where the successful candidate will be joining them as an Assistant Manager. The teams remit includes completing the statutory accounts enrichment process and produces Asset Encumbrance returns for the Group and subsidiaries, with responsibility for their financial control and related activities.

This is an excellent opportunity to learn, as part of a small team, with a wide range of internal customers across Finance and the wider business, you’ll gain exposure to a broad range of finance processes and activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of journals, to ensure the financials of the various entities are correctly reflected
  • Production of monthly balance sheet reconciliations, as part of the Balance Sheet substantiation process
  • Contributing to monthly reporting packs and management accounts
  • Supporting the annual planning activities that feed into the operating plan
  • Undertaking variance analysis and challenging outputs where appropriate
  • Supporting a robust control framework for all processes including ensuring SOX compliance
  • Building collaborative and effective relationships with key stakeholders
  • Helping to deliver and embed efficiencies and a culture of continuous improvement
  • Supporting with the resolution of external audit queries

Required Skills & Attributes:

  • A soon-to-be qualified (with relevant and transferrable work experience) or newly qualified accountant
  • Demonstrate a good understanding and practical experience of using and operating Finance systems and processes
  • Bring previous experience of identifying change and improvement initiatives
  • Proficient (or higher level) in Microsoft applications and are able to use and manipulate spreadsheets, use advanced formulae and pivot tables
  • Have experience of working within a complex, fast-paced internal Finance function and understanding of industry sector
  • Worked in a Financial reporting role within Financial Services, or had exposure to a Treasury function highly beneficial but not essential
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills - adept at liaising with internal customers at all levels 
  • Great relationship management skills - confident in building networks, and challenging and influencing others when needed
  • Written work is of an excellent standard, with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Accustomed to working autonomously - able to plan and organise your own workload effectively and have excellent prioritisation skills
  • Collaborative and supportive - motivate those around you and champion a team work approach
