Strong potential to convert to permanent
We are exclusively supporting a large, highly complex organisation headquartered in Edinburgh to appoint an experienced Group Financial Controller at a critical point in its finance leadership journey.
This is a senior, established leadership role reporting directly to the CFO and operating as a key member of the finance senior leadership team. The appointment is initially offered on an 18-month fixed-term basis, with a clear intention and strong likelihood of permanence for the right individual.
The organisation is prepared to wait for notice periods.
The Opportunity
This role requires an individual who has already operated successfully at Group Financial Controller (or equivalent) level within a large, complex, multi-entity environment.
The Group FC will take end-to-end responsibility for:
- Group financial accounting, consolidation and statutory reporting
- Oversight of financial reporting across multiple subsidiaries and entities
- Leading the annual reporting cycle and managing external audit relationships
- Ownership of core financial control, risk and assurance frameworks
- Input across tax, treasury and balance sheet management (with specialist support where appropriate)
- Driving continuous improvement, transformation and change across finance processes and systems
- Leading, motivating and developing a large, experienced finance team (circa 15–20 people)
This is a role for someone comfortable operating at scale, navigating complexity, and balancing technical rigour with pragmatism in a fast-moving environment.
Candidate Profile
We are keen to speak with candidates who can demonstrate:
- Fully qualified CCAB accountant (ACA / ACCA / ICAS or equivalent)
- Proven experience as an established Group Financial Controller (or equivalent senior financial reporting leader)
- Background within large, complex organisations with multiple entities and sophisticated governance
- Strong exposure across financial reporting, group consolidation, audit, controls and balance sheet oversight
- Working knowledge across tax and treasury, even if not hands-on day to day
- Experience leading large finance teams and operating within senior leadership forums
- A track record of contributing to or leading transformation, systems change or finance modernisation programmes
- Ability to engage confidently with senior stakeholders and explain complex issues clearly to non-finance audiences
Candidates from complex, regulated environments are likely to be a strong fit.
Working Pattern & Package
- Salary up to £115,000 (flexible for exceptional candidates)
- Excellent pension provision
- Generous holiday allowance and wider benefits
- Full-time role (35 hours per week)
- Hybrid working with 3 days per week in the Edinburgh office
Additional Information
- UK right to work required (sponsorship not available)
