Financial Controller - Edinburgh

£35,000 - £42,500 - Manufacturing / Engineering / Production - Qualified Accountancy & Finance

Wilkinson & Associates is working with a private-equity backed, early stage technology business based in Edinburgh, seeking to hire a Financial Controller.

The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of monthly management accounts and supporting the general running of the finance department. It is envisaged that the Company’s systems and process will continue to evolve as the Company grows and it is key that the person involved take an active part in such development and evolution.

This role is well suited to newly qualified accountants and they are encouraged to apply!

This is an excellent opportunity for an energetic individual to join a business with a highly qualified and passionate team. You will be joining a small team therefore you must be comfortable with a broad remit and equally be willing to operate at both the hands-on and strategic level concurrently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Month end routines including trial balance, input to management accounts and analysis and variances, balance sheet reconciliations
  • Management of the audit process including year-end audit files and liaison with the auditor, meetings as appropriate, completion of opening balances
  • Maintenance of records to support R&D tax claims to enable company to claim on a timely basis, preparation together with tax adviser of HMRC returns
  • Support forecasting process for rolling forecast and/or annual budget
  • Supporting of grant applications, maintenance of appropriate records to facilitate timely grant claims including organisation of audits when required
  • Establishment of appropriate process for monitoring stock and WIP for management reporting and to support operations
  • Responsibility for sales ledger
  • Close liaison with sales team concerning sales process and orders received
  • Running purchase ledger, ensuring invoices received are appropriately signed off against POs and entered
  • Day to day cash management
  • Reconciliations including bank and credit card statements
  • Maintenance fixed asset register, consideration impairment and useful life
  • Ad hoc projects

Required Skills & Attributes:

  • Qualified Accountant
  • Strength in Microsoft Office, particularly financial reporting and modelling in Excel
  • Ability to work in small company entrepreneurial environment, with willingness to adapt and pick up whatever needs doing
  • Calm under pressure
  • Willingness to learn and proven track record of learning at pace
  • Confident communication skills with the ability to challenge/influence non-finance stakeholders in the company
