Finance Manager - Private Equity - Edinburgh

Competitive (DOE) - Financial Services - Qualified Accountancy & Finance
Ref: 2743 Date Posted: Monday 06 Jul 2026

W&A is working with a highly regarded private investment office based in Edinburgh to appoint a Finance Manager to join a small, high-quality finance team.

This is a broad and hands-on role suited to a qualified accountant who enjoys variety, detail and working close to the heart of a business. The organisation invests across a wide range of asset classes, with a particular focus on private equity and direct investments in privately owned trading businesses. The portfolio is varied, complex and commercially interesting, offering exposure well beyond a standard finance role.

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will support a broad mix of quarterly and annual compliance activity, statutory reporting, tax, cash management, investment reporting and ad hoc project work.

The role would suit someone who is comfortable operating in a smaller finance environment where everyone is expected to take ownership, get involved and contribute across a broad range of tasks.

Key Responsibilities

You will be involved in:

  • Preparing year-end accounts for a range of entities, including corporates, partnerships and trusts
  • Supporting the preparation of statutory accounts information and liaising with auditors
  • Preparing corporation tax and personal tax information for external advisers
  • Reviewing tax returns and supporting internal sign-off processes
  • Managing day-to-day cashflow, payments and banking controls
  • Preparing VAT returns, including group and partial exemption returns
  • Liaising with banks and supporting quarterly reporting requirements
  • Gathering, reporting and interpreting investment-related data
  • Supporting company secretarial work, KYC requirements and CRS reporting
  • Contributing to ad hoc finance, reporting and project work

About You

You will likely be a CA or ACCA qualified accountant with strong technical grounding and a genuine interest in working across a varied, hands-on finance role.

You should bring:

  • Experience gained in a small to medium-sized accountancy firm and/or a broad finance role in industry
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and a strong understanding of double entry bookkeeping
  • The ability to manage competing demands from different stakeholders
  • A self-sufficient, organised and proactive working style
  • Confidence working to deadlines and taking ownership of your work
  • Experience with Microsoft Business Central would be advantageous

This role would particularly suit someone who enjoys technical variety, likes understanding how things work, and wants to be part of a small team where their contribution is visible.

Why Apply?

This is an excellent opportunity to join a respected investment business with a strong track record, a varied portfolio and a highly experienced team across finance and investment.

The role offers:

  • Broad exposure across finance, tax, reporting, investments and compliance
  • The chance to work closely with experienced finance and investment professionals
  • A small-team environment with real ownership and visibility
  • A competitive salary, discretionary bonus and pension contribution
