W&A is partnering with an established international premium business to appoint a Finance Controls Transformation Manager on a two-year fixed-term contract, based just outside Glasgow with hybrid working.
This is a senior, hands-on role focused on strengthening the finance control environment through controls design, assessment, process improvement and practical implementation.
The Opportunity
Reporting into senior financial controls leadership, you will take ownership of significant controls workstream outputs and act as a subject matter lead across controls design, assessment and improvement. The role combines deep analytical work with practical implementation: assessing current control effort, defining future-state approaches, improving governance and helping embed more consistent first-line controls across Finance.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead substantial elements of the finance controls transformation workstream, owning defined analyses, recommendations, plans and deliverables.
• Assess current control and compliance activity to identify friction, duplication, root causes and priority improvement opportunities.
• Create and maintain core controls artefacts such as control inventories, process and control taxonomies, requirements, KPI definitions and implementation plans.
• Design future-state control approaches with clear ownership, frequency, evidence standards, escalation routes, monitoring and governance.
• Identify ways to standardise, simplify and strengthen financial controls, using LEAN or similar methods to reduce rework and manual effort without weakening control effectiveness.
• Coordinate controls requirements and dependencies across finance process teams, ERP delivery, data and reporting, risk and audit stakeholders.
• Support risk assessments, control self-assessment, issue tracking, remediation planning and follow-up.
• Prepare concise papers and decision materials for governance forums and senior stakeholders, highlighting risks, dependencies and required decisions.
• Support implementation, readiness, go-live and handover so agreed control changes are embedded sustainably.
Required Skills & Experience
• Significant experience in finance controls, risk, compliance, business process analysis or finance transformation, including ownership of complex analytical work.
• Strong knowledge of financial control frameworks, control design and operation, evidence requirements, remediation and governance.
• Experience of structured problem solving and process improvement, ideally using LEAN or comparable continuous improvement methods.
• Confidence defining frameworks and working practices for controls assessment, risk registers, audit support, self-assessment or remediation tracking.
• Sound judgement and the ability to work autonomously through ambiguity, making clear recommendations and escalating where appropriate.
• Strong influencing skills and credibility with senior finance stakeholders, cross-functional teams, auditors and programme leadership.
• Excellent analytical, documentation, planning and communication skills.
• A finance qualification or relevant controls, risk or audit background is strongly preferred.
Package & Benefits
• Salary: £54,761–£70,239.
• Two-year fixed-term contract.
• Broader benefits include pension, bonus opportunity, flexible working and private healthcare.
• Location: just outside Glasgow, with hybrid working.
Why This Role?
• Influence the design of a future finance control environment rather than simply operating an existing framework.
• Work across process, controls, audit, data and ERP transformation in a highly visible role.
• Bring analytical depth and practical implementation together in one workstream.
• Join a global premium consumer business undertaking significant investment in its finance capability.
