W&A is supporting a leading global business in its search for an Assistant Accountant to join its Finance Operations team in Glasgow. This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious finance professional to join a collaborative environment, supporting month-end reporting, financial analysis, and continuous process improvement. The role is based in Glasgow and offers hybrid working.

 

The Opportunity

Working as part of a high-performing Management Accounts team, you'll play an important role in delivering accurate financial information, supporting reporting deadlines, and providing valuable insight to the wider business. This position offers excellent exposure across management accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, audit support, and financial analysis, making it an ideal next step for someone studying towards a professional qualification or looking to broaden their experience.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post monthly journals, including payroll, accruals, prepayments and cost adjustments.
  • Complete payroll reconciliations and support invoice coding and posting reviews.
  • Perform trend analysis against budgets and prior year performance ahead of month-end close.
  • Assist with monthly variance analysis and produce clear financial commentary.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts, investigating and resolving outstanding items with relevant stakeholders.
  • Support the preparation of monthly Risks and Opportunities reporting.
  • Maintain strong financial controls and produce clear audit trails across all work.
  • Assist with year-end and half-year audit deliverables, including reconciliation and supporting documentation.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of accounting processes and internal controls.

 

Candidate Profile

  • Previous experience within financial or management accounting.
  • Good understanding of financial reporting principles.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial information and communicate findings clearly.
  • Confident communicator who can explain financial information to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
  • Intermediate Excel skills, with advanced Excel experience advantageous.
  • Experience using SAP ERP or Microsoft Dynamics 365 would be beneficial but is not essential.
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail and excellent investigative skills.
  • Able to prioritise workloads effectively and work independently when required.
  • Part-qualified (or studying towards) CIMA, ACCA or ACA, or qualified through relevant experience.
