Valuations Analyst - Edinburgh

Wilkinson & Associates is partnering with a leading investment management firm based in Edinburgh as they have a unique opportunity to join their dynamic and commercial team.

This role is well suited to those that have an interest in corporate finance, equities and the investment lifecycle. 

The role responsibilities focus on the ongoing valuation and analysis of a portfolio of unlisted investments. This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to take a key role in and help to build a new and fast-growing area of the business.

 

The ability to interrogate and analyse valuation data, manage multiple information streams as well as build strong collaborative relationships both internally and externally will be key elements of this role.

 

Summary of role:

 

  • Checking and verifying the accuracy and integrity of the third-party valuation service providers’ reporting to ensure accurate data is being used and a correct financial basis to valuations, having regard to financial information available, liquidation preference ‘waterfalls’ etc.
  • Liaising with investee companies and Investors to ensure suitable information exchange.
  • Preparing valuations for comparison purposes and dealing with trigger events.
  • Monitoring the valuation timetable with the 3rd party provider and co-ordinating timely flow of information.
  • Producing the reporting and assisting in the administration relevant to the quarterly valuation cycle.
  • Monitoring the capital structures of the unlisted investments and ensuring they are recorded correctly.
  • Assisting in the development of an internal unlisted investment repository as well as other process improvements.
  • Developing the monitoring and reporting of our unlisted investment portfolio in conjunction with other areas of the business.
  • Close liaison and involvement in prospective future unlisted investment vehicles.

 

Key criteria:

 

  • Accounting qualification (CA /ACCA) or CFA. (essential)
  • An understanding of the structure of unlisted companies and experience in dealing with preferential share rights and waterfall calculations. (desirable)
  • Some proven unlisted valuation experience through undertaking either the auditing and interrogating of unlisted valuation financial information, or in the actual preparation of unlisted valuations.
  • Knowledge and experience of applying Fair Value accounting (UK GAAP or IFRS) and the International Private Equity Valuation (IPEV) guidelines
  • Experience of various investment vehicles, including both closed and open-ended structures
  • Proficient in MS Excel, including experience in creating valuation models such as discounted cash-flow and the creation of regression models.
