Tax Manager - West Lothian

Wilkinson & Associates is partnering with an independent engineering business based in Livingston. They have an excellent opportunity for a Tax Manager to join their finance department.

The Tax Manager will be responsible for leading all tax activities including: tax compliance, tax planning, investment tax structuring of corporate transactions, tax risk management and tax reporting. The successful candidate will discharge their responsibilities under the coordination and supervision of the Head of Accounting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain effective Company tax strategy, including formulation of overall tax philosophy and approach to tax compliance, tax planning and tax risk management
  • Ensure close compliance to tax law provisions relevant to all group business units and operating companies
  • Ensure effective tax planning and provide strategic tax analysis of significant anticipated deals, investment projects, business reorganisations and other material transactions
  • Provide regular monitoring of changes in tax legislation, position of the relevant tax authorities, court practice as well as industry specific regulations having impact on tax position
  • Develop and maintain proper tax risk management standards, policies and procedures with the purpose of tax risk minimisation and in line with the overall Company’s risk appetite
  • Manage and coordinate tax disputes, in cooperation with all the relevant Business Units of the company; coordinate the activity of external advisors on tax audit defence matters
  • Establish and maintain proper Group tax accounting and reporting policies and procedures
  • Provide support to Business Development and M&A activities during pre-development or pre-acquisition phase (i.e. due diligence process, business evaluation, competitive bidding) and during the post-acquisition/integration phase for the implementation of policies, processes and systems in line to Group tax policies and procedures

Required Skills & Attributes:

  • CA and/or CTA Qualified
  • Previous and post-qualified experience in a similar role
  • Candidates having trained in practice are encouraged to apply
  • University degree
  • Previous experience working within the utility and infrastructure sectors preferred
  • Previous exposure of working with a multi company business within UK preferred
  • Superior analytical and synthesis skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with sensitivity to different cultures
  • Ability to build trust and effective personal relations both within the organisation and with all relevant external stakeholders
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure, ability to work in team and strong negotiation skills
  • Stay abreast of the latest trends/tendencies on accounting and internal control
