Tax Consultant - Edinburgh

Wilkinson & Associates is working with a global investment company based in Edinburgh. They have an excellent opportunity to join as a Tax Consultant in the Corporate Tax team.

The team are responsible for managing the tax compliance and planning for all the organisations entities throughout Europe, Middle East and Africa. This will involve ensuring all tax returns are completed correctly and paid on time as well as providing advice to the business on any complex corporate tax scenarios. 

This role requires a tax or accountancy qualification and strong corporate tax knowledge. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills with the ability to present clear findings to the wider team. Transfer pricing knowledge or experience would be highly advantageous.

Ideally you should be able to manage & adhere to deadlines whilst maintaining a high standard of output. This an excellent opportunity for a self-motivated individual to work with a successful organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare local tax returns for aligned regions, ensure compliance and that reporting requirements are met for the specific EMEA companies within your region
  • Provide tax support and advice to business units and management as well as responding to tax queries raise by auditors or by tax authorities
  • Undertake tax driven projects and provide support to leadership within International Tax, Transfer Pricing and wider Tax colleagues
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the tax requirements for the companies in the various jurisdictions and work with regional advisors for tax returns/advice
  • Provide tax accounting support to the European and US teams (quarterly ETR reporting & provision process, FIN48, FAS 5 etc.) including the preparation of regional tax summary information and reports
  • Provide tax expertise in company-wide projects and initiatives
  • Identify tax risks, tax legislative changes, opportunities to implement tax efficiencies and management of external tax advisors
  • Maintain awareness of recent tax developments in EMEA region and assess the impact to  business interests
  • Assist in managing transfer pricing compliance matters within Europe including identifying related party transactions, coordination of transfer pricing documentation and related enquiries (both internal and tax authority driven).  

Required skills and attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Recognised Tax and/or Accountancy qualification (CTA/CA etc.)
  • Good corporate tax knowledge (international tax experience desirable) is essential
  • Excellent tax research skills combined with good decision making ability
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to present clear findings to Tax team members and senior leaders
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, managing & adhering to deadlines whilst maintaining a high standard of output
  • Solid commercial awareness with an appreciation of other non-tax business drivers and considerations
  • Team player who is both flexible and organised
