Reporting Accountant - East Lothian

Wilkinson & Associates are working with a fast-moving technology company in Edinburgh. They currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced, well organised Reporting Accountant, reporting to the CFO. 

The role will play an integral part of the business, developing the accounting function across the Group bringing record keeping and reporting up to standard to help maintain best practice in this globally reaching organisation.

The role allows significant autonomy, where you can take ownership! This requires a self-motivated and proactive problem solver.

The position requires a qualified accountant (or nearing completion of a professional qualification) with excellent communication and customer service skills. You should be comfortable building strong relationships with customers and internal stakeholders.

Ideally, you will have experience of working as a financial accountant, in an international and group environment. Experience of systems development would be highly advantageous.

Key responsibilities:

  • Preparation of monthly management accounts on a timely basis, including calculation and posting of month end prepayments, accruals, depreciation, reconciliation of inter-company balances etc.
  • Preparing monthly budgets and monitoring budgets against actual performance. Providing commentary on variances.
  • Providing commentary on the performance of each element of the business.
  • Preparation and submission of VAT returns.
  • Preparing cash flow forecasts and monitoring to actual.
  • Liaising with external auditors at year end.
  • Overseeing sales and purchase invoice processing.
  • Authorising and processing payments runs, dealing with supplier queries and ensuring control accounts are maintained.
  • Monitor internal processes and control making suggested improvements where required.
  • Monitor capital expenditure.

Required skills and attributes:

  • CA/ACA/ACCA qualified (or nearing completion of a professional qualification) with experience in a similar role or financial reporting position
  • Knowledge of Sage50 Professional preferred, and Quickbooks, or Xero a benefit.
  • Experience of operating Netsuite and its implementation is beneficial.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Office365 essential.
  • Experience of managing a finance team and mentoring staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Numerate with strong analytical skills.
  • Take initiative and ownership of tasks with the ability to work with little supervision.
  • Sound knowledge of UK and / or International accounting standards
