Wilkinson and Associates is partnering with an acquisitive, multi-faceted financial services company based in Edinburgh. They have an excellent opportunity for the role of an IT Principal Auditor to support and lead IT and integrated audit engagements.

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting audit assignment fieldwork and issuing assurance, and assist with audit planning and reporting. Furthermore, executing all audit work with objectivity and independence from the business area, executive management and risk management

You will also be expected to deliver audit outputs at the necessary level of quality to satisfy internal requirements and external expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To support and lead IT and integrated audit engagements
  • To conduct audit assignment fieldwork and issue assurance, and assist with audit planning and reporting
  • To execute all audit work with objectivity and independence from the business area, executive management and risk management
  • To deliver audit outputs at the necessary level of quality to satisfy internal requirements and external expectations

Required skills and attributes:

  • Relevant professional qualification (e.g. Accountant / Actuary / Auditor) with relevant post qualification experience or equivalent
  • Experience of acting as a technical coach / mentor to less experienced members of an audit team
  • Experience of working closely with senior management and Audit Committees to understand and deliver against expectations
  • Experience of assessing, reacting quickly and decisively to problems once identified, taking tough decisions where needed
  • Significant experience of a broad range of audit frameworks and approaches, covering financial and non-financial risk
  • Experience of influencing and negotiation at all levels of the organisation, strong awareness of when to escalate audit issues upwards to more senior members of the audit team
  • Experience of influencing others and building strong relationships across the business
  • Detailed knowledge of audit tools, techniques and industry best practice
  • Detailed level knowledge of the UK Financial Services sector, including regulatory, governance and risk management rules and regulations relevant to financial and non-financial risk
  • Detailed knowledge of the principles of accounting and auditing and their application to the business
  • Working knowledge of professional standards and codes relating to the specialism (Actuarial, Accounting, Auditing or IT Auditing)
  • Understanding of the Statement of Principle and Code of Practice
  • Ability to build relationships with an understand the business whilst retaining complete independence as an auditor
