W&A is working with an information technology consulting organisation based in Edinburgh to help source an Operational Tax SME for an initial six month contract, outside IR35.

This role can be fully remote and flexible working arrangements will also be an option.

The role will work within the Operations Team to provide vital knowledge and input to the design, delivery and run of a major element of a new project for a pension provider. The role will both support the Finance, Payments & Tax Business Design Team and will ultimately become the BAU expert; post migration of the business and operation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analysing, understanding, applying and communicating the finance implications of the project, including reporting
  • Researching and responding to technical and practical tax issues and queries
  • Liaising with other SMEs and client representatives to produce complete analyses and solutions
  • Working closely with the client to support the definition of processes, procedures and policies and  communicating the contexts of the settings in which these will be applied
  • Guiding the design teams on the project to ensure the content is accurate in relation to policyholder tax requirements
  • Resolving issues relevant to project deliverables within your area of expertise
  • Providing supporting evidence for approval to new processes
  • Being committed to the project and participating in the workshops
  • Bringing information about the project back to the design teams
  • Working across teams to provide specialist input for the design of the new solution
  • Providing input into and executing user documentation and training material
  • Reviewing and testing the products or services towards the end of the project/program (user acceptance testing), using and evaluating it for accuracy and usability, providing feedback to the project team

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrable knowledge of Financial Product Accounting
  • Previous experience working in Life and Pensions and / or finance roles
  • Good oral and written communication, which is clear and suited to audience
  • Good PC skills including MS office and in particular MS excel
  • Ability to work on own initiative and be self-motivated
  • Team player who demonstrates good collaboration across team
  • Good time management, planning and organisational skills, and ability to easily adapt
  • Ability to plan and work to tight deadlines without compromising accuracy
  • Client focus & relationship management skills
  • Proven experience in analytical thinking and problem solving
  • Operational TAX knowledge desired
  • PAYE knowledge and understanding desired
