Wilkinson & Associates is working with an independent school in Edinburgh to help source a Newly Qualified Accountant responsible for the financial accounts, trading subsidiaries and alumni.

This role is ideally suited to newly qualified accountants seeking a varied role and that are looking to make their first move post qualifying. If you have trained in audit and / or accounts preparation and would like to further develop your management accounting, analysis and financial reporting skills – this could be the role for you!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise on general financial policy within the School and maintain the financial accounts of the School in accordance with the charities Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) and UK GAAP
  • Prepare the consolidated statutory annual accounts for the School, trading subsidiaries and Alumni
  • Prepare the annual budget in consultation with the Bursar and advise on fee increases
  • Monitor income and expenditure in relation to budget and present termly management accounts to the Board of Governors
  • Prepare pupils' bills and collecting all fees and extras
  • Pay all salaries and wages, including PAYE, Superannuation, National Insurance Contributions and any other payroll deductions, and ensure compliance with regulations for P11D benefits in kind and PAYE settlement agreement
  • Keep statistical records and prepare forecasts for future financial performance
  • Work with the HR Manager to ensure compliance with all relevant aspects of employment law including equal pay, minimum wage and manage the employee benefit package
  • In conjunction with the Facilities Manager monitor the planned maintenance programme
  • Annually review all insurance policies to ensure full coverage and submit insurance claims and liaise with insurers as necessary
  • Work with the General Manager to oversee the administration of commercial letting activities and process payments
  • Work with the Bursar to promote the facilities and increase lettings and encourage community use of the facilities

To be considered for the role you must be a recently qualified accountant. Applicants having trained in practice or industry will be considered. You should have good working knowledge of FRS102 or SORP. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a proactive, collegiate and confident approach and be armed with excellent communication skills.
