Wilkinson and Associates is partnering with a leading global asset management organisation based in Edinburgh. They have an exceptional opportunity for the role of Financial Reporting & Controls Manager.

This role will report directly to the Head of UK Financial Reporting & Control and will be responsible for leading a team to deliver high quality and timely financial and regulatory reporting outputs. This will involve shaping reporting processes and the control environment to ensure the finance function delivers business insight and value add reporting.

The successful candidate will be expected to plan and lead on critical team and group wide projects, build collaborative workings relationships across the finance and wider business units and lead on supporting the wider finance strategy.

This role will have line management responsibilities and the successful candidate will be expected to plan and prioritise time spent across the team, ensure productivity and utilisation remains high and support continuous development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Month end reporting – Verification and succinct articulation of the consolidated messages for the UK reporting function to provide valuable business insight. This will involve monitoring the close process, early identification of issues and reviewing and challenging financial data and commentary provided by the financial controllers.
  • Quarter and year-end reporting – Coordinating all board, regulatory and group reporting outputs and challenging the data and commentary included within.
  • Projects – Lead on team and group wider projects to support the strategic direction of the finance function.
  • Technical resolution – Lead on key accounting and regulatory technical matters for presentation and agreement with the Head of UK Financial Reporting & Control.
  • Processes & control – Continuous review of the control environment and critical business processes to ensure these continue to be effective and well understood. Ongoing challenge is expected to ensure the control environment and key processes continue to deliver efficiencies and value add across the function.
  • Stakeholder engagement – Take responsibility for building collaborative relationships with peers across the finance function and wider business units to deliver business insight and contribute to a best in class finance function.
  • Learning & development – Taking responsibility for developing both technical and softer skills across the team and ensuring the continuous professional development of our people.

Required skills and attributes:

  • Qualified accountant.
  • Asset management experience preferable but not essential.
  • Technical accounting and financial services regulatory knowledge.
  • Takes personal accountability for high quality outputs and timely delivery.
  • Self-starter who is willing to learn and take on new challenges.
  • Commercial acumen and ability to challenge trends and form expectations.
  • Effective leadership across a variety of business as usual and project initiatives.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team to inspire, share and listen to ideas.
  • Organisational skills with an ability to prioritise work and manage expectations.
