W&A is working with a growing e-commerce retailer in West Lothian as they seek to hire a Financial Controller. Recent growth has been exceptional and plans for future development of the business are ambitious. 

The Financial Controller role presents a great opportunity to design and deliver the future of the finance function. The successful candidate will develop a business partner relationship with all areas of the business with the key focus being on the provision of high-quality, effective financial management, control, and advice.  

Additionally, the position will play a key role in designing and enhancing efficient and integrated systems and processes. 

The role of Financial Controller is newly created, as such there is somewhat of a blank canvas to shape the role/function.  

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Providing accurate and timely financial performance information 

  • Building an efficient and nimble, appropriately skilled, and resourced, finance capability  

  • Participation as part of the senior leadership team 

  • Financial planning, forecasting, and budgeting activity 

  • Financial compliance responsibilities 

  • Continual improvement in financial and administrative processes 

  • Management of key external relationships 

  • Responsibility for accurate and efficient input of all financial transactions 

  • Contribute to the creation of strategic and annual operating plans as part of the senior leadership team 

  • Relentless drive to provide high-quality decision support through provision of analysed data, both financial and non-financial 

  • Provide coaching to colleagues to ensure effective financial management  

  • Responsibility for financial planning processes to agree annual budget and 5-year financial plan to meet medium-term goals and objectives  

  • Maintain and develop financial policies to ensure effective internal financial controls 

  • Support the preparation of statutory accounts and provision of relevant schedules for external accountants and auditors 

Required Skills & Attributes: 

  • Post Qualifying experience  

  • Well versed in the preparation of management accounts  

  • Intermediate to advanced user of Excel  

  • Good data manipulation and analysis skills  

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

  • A flexible and team-oriented approach 

  • An engaging Business Partner approach with Commercial and Operations teams 

  • Energy, persistence, and desire to drive continual improvement 

  • Prior experience of system implementation, ideally stock-control and e-commerce preferred
