In a nutshell

As the Financial Control Manager you’ll support the Financial Control function over a 6 month period to deliver core finance operations support, implement key projects and systems change.

What you need to do

  • Manage a team of Assistant Managers and Analysts to deliver end-to-end financial processes for our products, including Balance Sheet reconciliation & substantiation.
  • Deliver changes to finance processes resulting from projects ensuring robust definition of requirements, risk and control assessments, testing and implementation.
  • Review accounting processes and controls ensuring fit for purpose.  Design and delivery of improvement opportunities identified.  Areas include:
    • End user computing
    • Accounts payable and purchase ordering
    • Balance sheet reconciliation and substantiation
    • Intercompany reconciliations and processes
    • Daily processing efficiency
  • Manage any actual issues or risk events that occur within the team ensuring full compliance with reporting, detailed understanding of cause(s) and rapid determination and implementation of appropriate response.
  • Internal/External Audit – Act as primary point of contact for audit in matters pertaining to Financial Control.
  • Develop the accounting and control awareness knowledge of all members of the team. ensuring the team are able to operate sustainable and robust processes going forward.
  • Deputise for the Head of Financial Control.

What you need to know and show

  • Qualified accountant with 3+ years’ post qualified experience.
  • Strong awareness of the control environment within a financial services organisation.
  • Significant experience in understanding end to end business processes, risk management and control design.
  • Excellent PC skills, particularly Excel and Finance Systems (knowledge of Oracle beneficial).
  • Experience working with large data sets and implementing well documented processes to analyse data in a controlled manner.
  • Excellent planning, organisation skills together with excellent change management ability
  • Ability to work with and influence team members and third parties to drive through the required improvements to systems and processes.
  • Highly numerate, with excellent analytical and problem solving skills and attention to detail.
