Commercial Finance Lead - Edinburgh

Wilkinson & Associates is working with a global retailer headquartered in Edinburgh. They have an exciting opportunity for a Commercial Finance Lead to join their finance team.

The role will be strategically important to the development of the business and the successful candidate will work closely with the senior management team.

The role will be responsible for leading the financial analysis across end consumer channels and will be given freedom to operate autonomously. Ideally, you will be able to present findings and conclusions back to the senior management team in order to shape and underpin the future operational and commercial strategy.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded and analytical individual to provide insight into data that will help accelerate the business growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead all aspects of commercial financial analysis including but not limited to assessing the impact of price changes, advertising strategy changes and product copy changes.  This will require detailed testing plans, test execution and subsequent review to ensure valid, reliable results.
  • Summarise and present findings to the senior team to agree process and operational changes. Work with the various departments to implement changes and review subsequently to ensure expected improvements are delivered.
  • Monitor trading and operational performance metrics, identify changes quickly and develop solutions and improvements that can be rolled out across the business.
  • Learn and critically appraise core trading and operation processes/reporting with a focus on continual improvement.
  • To become expert in the key drivers of end consumer financial performance then leverage them to better the business and staff.

Required Skills & Attributes:

  • Qualified accountant.
  • Previous experience in a similar role, ideally in a smaller and/or growing business.
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • To be curious with a professionally sceptical mindset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to build relationships at all levels of the business to understand needs and implement changes.
  • Excellent commercial grounding and understanding of the fundamentals of business.
  • Highly numerate, with data driven with proven MS Excel capability.
  • Works collaboratively to clarify, improve and deliver what the business needs.
  • Takes inspiration and best practice from wherever it can be found.
  • Implements and improves processes to maximise efficiency and accuracy.
  • Deal well with ambiguity and change.
  • Confident expressing and debating ideas in groups.
