Wilkinson & Associates is partnering with a retail bank headquartered in Edinburgh, seeking to hire a Assistant Tax Manager.

Reporting to the Head of Tax you will support the Tax team in providing a comprehensive and proactive corporation tax, VAT and operational taxes compliance & advisory service to all the group businesses.

The successful candidate will also apply appropriate processes and systems to ensure the organisation meets its various tax reporting, payment and other compliance obligations, and that tax advice is appropriately reflected in management and statutory accounts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurate and timely preparation of the corporation tax returns and management/statutory tax reporting requirements for the group and other group companies as required/appropriate.
  • Accurate and timely preparation of the group VAT return and TSB CT61.
  • Monitoring and review of relevant processes for submission of all the groups operational tax returns (eg. BBSI, ISA, FATCA, CRS), as well as involvement in related ‘Change’ projects.
  • Manage HMRC compliance enquiries and respond to business queries on various tax technical, compliance and reporting issues.
  • Supporting Head of Tax and Tax team on compliance matters and additional ad hoc projects (eg. tax transfer pricing review, Making Tax Digital requirements).
  • Assisting Head of Tax, Tax team and HR/Payroll team on employment tax matters and reporting thereof.
  • Operating within the SAO and operational tax risk parameters and procedures. 
  • Supporting the achievement of the annual taxation business plan to contribute to the achievement of the overall Finance business plan.
  • Ensuring that tax risks are identified and steps are implemented in order to mitigate these.

Required Skills & Attributes:

  • Qualified accountant (eg. CA, ACCA) ideally with PQE experience.
  • Good tax technical ability, with up to date knowledge on current UK tax legislation.
  • Good communicator with a clear grasp of UK corporation tax compliance and the ability to convey tax technical matters in area of responsibility.
  • Knowledge and experience of VAT, operational taxes and employment taxes would be an advantage.
  • Ability to identify areas of tax risk within area of responsibility.
  • Good stakeholder management and business analytical skills.
  • Good business knowledge, industry and sector awareness
  • Able to deliver across a number of different priorities.
  • Drive and determination and an ability to work both autonomously and within the team.
  • Proven flexibility and willingness to broaden skills and experience.
