In a recent BBC article entitled “Can a computer really recruit the best staff?” it is suggested by Bill Nowacki, Managing Director of decision science at KPMG, that the analysis of Big Data can be applied to improve a range of areas in how organisations function. Now, this is a generally accepted field of research with numerous examples of how Big Data can improve an organisation’s effectiveness, however one of the most interesting applications referred to in the article was how this data can be applied to the recruitment of staff.

My last blog focused predominantly on CV length and in this edition we will home-in on relevant content.
As with CV length there is plenty of debate about what should or shouldn’t be included in your CV. Some people tend to prefer a personality based, achievement focused CV whilst others prefer more of a skills based, functional CV. Personally I don’t feel there is one uniform way to present a CV, ultimately people are different and it’s right that you’re able to present yourself in any which way you like. However there are some guidelines we suggest our candidates stick to which hopefully ensures they’re painting themselves in the best possible light and at all times bear in mind that their CV is a sales tool.
