Dress Code for Interview

October 03 2017

A client of ours recently gave me feedback that one of our candidates had been unsuccessful at interview. Nothing unique in that I hear our competitors say! Whilst it’s not news the candidate or we like to hear in recruitment, obviously it’s not uncommon for people to miss out on jobs.  What was more unique about this instance was that included in the overall feedback was the throw away comment that of the four candidates they interviewed, my candidate was the only one not to wear a tie at interview. To be absolutely clear, this wasn’t the reason the candidate was unsuccessful – ultimately they didn’t perform well enough during the interview process.  However it made me realise that within that one statement many assumptions (conscious and unconscious) have potentially been made - by the prospective employer, the candidate and myself.

Corporate Social Responsibility & Charitable Donations

Our corporate social responsibility policy covers our impact on society, the environment, our diversity record, our behaviour as an employer, customer and supplier of services, our relationships with all our stakeholders; and the core values that guide our company.

We are committed to being a responsible business and believe that improving our understanding and delivering our social and environmental responsibilities is important to sustaining our success as an organisation and in improving our understanding of the markets and communities we work in.

For Wilkinson & Associates success in corporate social responsibility is being responsible; as well as profitable; taking a responsible approach to climate change and minimising our impact on the environment; being a good employer; and ensuring that we are attracting and retaining people from the widest possible pool of talent. For us, sustainability is also about investing in the future by helping to improve the skills and aspirations of young people. We have undertaken a number of initiatives which we believe will help bring the local communities and the corporate sector closer together. We hope that these and future initiatives should help raise the awareness of young people to careers in accountancy and finance and as a direct result will establish a greater diversity in the workforce.

In addition our charitable donations policy reflects our core values of Integrity, Collaboration, Quality and Customer Focus. To that end we ensure that all the charities we donate to be not for profit organisations that strive to improve the quality of life for their beneficiaries and any donations that we make are not made for our own commercial gain.

Wilkinson & Associates support a number of charities on an annual basis as well as contributing to a number of charities on ad-hoc basis. Our team also choose to donate their time individually and as an organisation we wholeheartedly support them in their endeavours, whether it is paying to wear your Christmas jumper to work, running the race for life or taking part in a triathlon, they do it to raise money for the good of others.

Due to the nature of our business and the broad range of customers we work with, we are regularly invited to support various charitable endeavours on a one-off basis. Unfortunately we simply cannot respond positively to every single request. Therefore, in order to avoid the dilemma of having to choose between equally deserving charitable causes, we have selected the following charities to partner with on an on-going basis.

We will still assess any one-off requests on a case-by-case basis however please do not be disappointed if we can’t support your undoubtedly worthy cause.
