The Artemis Kindrochit Challenge

In January of this year, Guy Gracie, an Associate Director with Wilkinson & Associates, agreed to take part in the Artemis Kindrochit Challenge. Apparently a fun, summer, outdoor event held in the picturesque setting of Loch Tay.

The full extent of what he had agreed to undertake soon became apparent as the itinerary was revealed for what he has since realised is described as one of Scotland's most grueling events :a 1.5km open water swim across Loch Tay, a 24km mile run/hike over 7 Munro's, an 11km kayak, finishing with a56km cycle around the Loch. All completed as quickly as possible. Ouch……..

The event took place on the 9th July 2011 and Guy and his team managed to navigate the course in under 12 hours, placing in the top 100 participants. A magnificent effort given this was a first attempt at such an event and way ahead of the estimated 14 hour duration.

A question many people have asked is simply, why ? The answer has admittedly changed several times, often whilst at the top of a mountain in the pouring rain or immersed in the icy waters of a Scottish loch, but Guy always remained focused on what was ahead. Firstly, he believes that this has provided an opportunity to take himself outside his comfort zone, to challenge himself both mentally and physically and this is something that we all need to do when considering our everyday lives, careers and situations. Perhaps more importantly though, it has provided an opportunity to obtain sponsorship which gives something back to those in parts of the world that need it most – namely Mercy Corps' great work in Timor-Leste and Mary's Meals' work in feeding and supporting children in Malawi. www.mercycorps.org.uk and www.marysmeals.org.

So it is with considerable admiration, and very little envy, that we can now reflects on both the mental and physical triumph in completing this mighty challenge and in raising around £5,000 for those less fortunate than ourselves.

Should you wish to sponsor Guy, the opportunity to do so remains open and all donations would be extremely gratefully received. You can do so by visiting
